23 Things I’ve Learned in My 23 Years

There has been a change around here! My blog’s title has been updated because another year has passed and today is my 23rd birthday! 🙂 Back in the fall a Youtuber I watch posted a video titled “30 Things About Being 30.” I wanted to do something similar. So, here are 23 things I have learned in my 23 years. Some are light-hearted, and others are more serious.

  1. There are a lot of things you can be that are worse than being “ugly.”  Being unkind, judgemental, rude, etc. are the things you should actually worry about.
  2. Friends will come and go, and that is perfectly ok. The people who matter the most will stick around.
  3. Jeans and a t-shirt are comfortable. There is no need to worry so much about what you are wearing.
  4. It is alright to admit you do not know something. There is no reason to pretend you are knowledgeable about everything. No, people will not assume you are unintelligent because you happen to not know a lot about a particular thing.
  5. Sara Bareilles concerts are some of the happiest places in the world.
  6. Meeting Sara Bareilles is even cooler than you had imagined.
  7. No one has it all together. Anyone who says otherwise is definitely lying.
  8. You were correct that most of what you learned in geometry is not relevant in your adult life.
  9. You, however, were also incorrect that the class was pointless. You learned how to problem solve, how to stick with something challenging, and that sometimes you just have to suck it up and do it anyway.
  10. Things can be fun even if you are not very good at it! Note to self, I know the younger version of you swore this was untrue and I am glad you changed your mind.
  11. You cannot make everyone like you, and you will stress yourself out trying to. Just be yourself, and you will find people who think that is more than enough.
  12. Being independent does not mean never asking for help.
  13. Sitting on the sidelines because you do not want to look “dumb” or be judged is boring. Just give it a try because having fun is what matters most.
  14. Pizza tastes good no matter the time of day.
  15. Age is just a number. Some of your closest friends are much younger than you, and it makes little difference. You can learn a lot from people who are younger than you.
  16. Sometimes life is really unfair, and there is nothing you can do about it. The good thing is that you can survive through it.
  17. Gilmore Girls will never get old.
  18. Stubbornness can be turned into positive determination.
  19. You are stronger than you sometimes see on your own. Thank goodness you have others who will remind you when you cannot see it on your own.
  20. School and the opportunity to get a degree will always be there. Your health will not be unless you get proper help for your eating disorder.
  21. There is no time limit on deciding what you want to ultimately do with your life. Everyone takes a different path.
  22. I am resilient and so are you, dear reader.
  23. I am no longer a victim. I am a survivor!
